Dhaka: Awami League activists have taken to the streets against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigning and forcing her to leave the country. There are also reports of their clashes with the law enforcement army of the country. Thousands of workers hand over an army vehicle during protests in Gopalganj district on Saturday.
The protesters also snatched the weapon of an army jawan during the incident. 15 people including five army personnel were injured in this incident. Two journalists were also beaten while reporting. Lieutenant Colonel Maksudur Rahman of Gopalganj camp confirmed the truth of the incident to the local media.
The incident took place near Gopinathpur bus stand of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila around 3:30 pm on Saturday. Bangladesh’s leading newspaper Prothom Alo quoted government sources as saying that the Awami League had called a rally to demand Sheikh Hasina’s return. Thousands of Awami League leaders and workers from Gopinathpur and Jalalabad Union and surrounding areas participated in it. Meanwhile, the protesters blocked the Dhaka-Khulna highway. A team of army reached the spot to open the road.
Agitated protestors resorted to lathi charge and firing
According to the report, the army personnel resorted to baton charge to disperse the crowd. Meanwhile, the protestors got angry at the firing by the army and started beating the soldiers. Army personnel had to flee the spot and take shelter in a house. Protesters snatched weapons from an army soldier and set fire to his car. Five army personnel were injured in the clash.

On Saturday, Awami League leaders and workers tied a shroud on their heads and vowed to bring Sheikh Hasina back to the country. Thousands of Awami League leaders and activists gathered in Gopalganj’s Kotalipara said that Sheikh Hasina has been forced to leave the country.
